Correspondence, deeds, financial papers, and miscellaneous items pertaining to the Adams and Partin families of Wake County, N.C. Contains early papers including deeds, surveys, and correspondence, including several letters dated 1859 and 1860 from J.B. Strain of Chapel Hill, N.C., to J.Q. Adams, Wake County, discussing such subjects as farming, Strain's teaching of grammar, German, and arithmetic, the poor state of the roads and difficulties of travel, and the question of ad valorem taxation; fifteen Civil War letters from J. Quincy Adams of the Wake Guards (Company D, 26th Regiment, North Carolina Troops) to his parents and letter from Nathan Adams (Mar. 15, 1862) describing the martial law necessitated by the war conditions in New Bern, N.C.; family accounts and receipts including a 1923 Rex Hospital bill for Lettie Partin, 6 days, operating room fee, and anaesthesia all for $41.60; and estate papers for the estate of Dallas L. Adams including a list of property, accounts, correspondence, and list of real estate belonging to his heirs.
